From the Gulf Coast to the hills of north Mississippi, hundreds of
species of animals and birds make Mississippi their home. In this
section you find expert tour operators who can provide excursions
that will give you "up close and personal" experiences with
nature. There are several outstanding festivals each year throughout
the state that celebrate nature. Mississippi hosts the Hummingbird
Migration Celebration in Holly Springs, the Mississippi River Nature
Festival, including a Stork and Cork weekend package, at Tara
Wildlife Management near Vicksburg, and the Pascagoula River Nature
Festival in the Pascagoula River Basin. One of the most uniquely outstanding
outdoor recreation events is The Great Delta Bear Affair Festival
in Rolling Fork. The festival features birding activities, equestrian
trail rides, as well as other nature tourism events. It is a celebration
of Teddy Roosevelt's famous bear hunt and supports the restoration
of the black bear in the Delta. Audubon
Mississippi is a state-level program of the National Audubon Society
and engages and connects people with nature across the entire state.
From the State Office and Strawberry
Plains Audubon Center, located in Holly Springs, to the Central
Office in Vicksburg, to the Gulf Coast Office in Moss Point, Audubon
Mississippi is working hard to promote the mission of the National
Audubon Society and nature tourism.
