Mississippi is a scenic state, period! But one of the most historic
byways in the nation is the Natchez
Trace Parkway. Tales of commerce, adventure and bandits are all
part of its luring folklore. This 444-mile modern road commemorates
an ancient passageway all the way from Natchez to Nashville. Historic
markers, Indian mounds, scenic vistas, hiking trails and sections
of the "old sunken Trace" are accessible all along the way.
The parkway winds its way through a diverse terrain of rolling hills,
farmland, thick forests and cypress swamps. Other attractions to explore
include the Grand
Gulf Raymond Scenic Byway and the Great
River Road National Scenic Byway. Our unique network of byways
and drives offer the chance to follow in the footsteps of our ancestors,
but they also create an opportunity to make your own history while
exploring this grand state.
