5 Mississippi Influencers to Follow Now

If you really want to get to know Mississippi, then it’s probably high time for a road trip. But if a visit simply isn’t in the cards just now, the best way to see the state is through the lens of a local. For that, you can turn to social media and peruse the Instagram accounts of Mississippi influencers who share their lives in the Magnolia State. Whether you’re looking for Southern-certified recipes to try at home or fashion tips for every season, these five Mississippi influencers have you covered.

Husband and father Jay Morgan turned a 25-year-old tradition of cooking for family, friends, and soon-to-be friends into a popular blog called Friday Night Porch Party. The father of four from Belzoni moved to Madison in 2004. He’s been doing Friday night dinners on his home porch there ever since. The guests are different each week, but there’s always plenty of food to go around and a creative menu to boot. If you want to create your own Mississippi-style porch party, check out Jay’s website for delicious recipes for everything from Catfish Manicotti and Memaw’s Duck Gumbo to Microwave Peanut Brittle and Jalapeno Chicken Salad. For more fun—and a big dash of personality—check out Jay’s Instagram where he shares his recipes, as well as stories from his life as a Southern father and husband.

Madison natives and sisters Andee and Holly have a passion for Mississippi homes, and they’re sharing their love of the state’s gorgeous architecture via their popular Instagram account @mississippihouses. With more than 58,000 followers, their fanbase goes far beyond those who call the Magnolia State home. From Queen Anne charmers to Greek Revival stunners, a scroll through this account page is sure to have you swooning in no time.

Follow along on travel adviser Jane Halbert Jones’ Instagram account @morethanatourist for inspiring travel content from around the globe. The Jackson-based jetsetter uses her page to share travel tips and beautiful pictures from her jaunts across the ocean. But if you want to see Mississippi through an expert’s eyes, we recommend letting Jones build a custom trip around the state for you and your group. If you find yourself in the capital city, join one of Jones’ Jackson walking or food tours.

Get a dose of Vitamin D and plenty of fashion advice from lifestyle blogger Jane Foster. Known for bright colors, bold patterns, and a heavy dose of Southern sensibility, Jane’s page is the perfect place to find inspiration if you find yourself in a fashion rut. She regularly collaborates with local boutiques and shopping centers in and around her hometown of Canton, so she’s the first to know when there are deals or sales that absolutely must be shopped.
