Seafood Season on the Mississippi Gulf Coast
September is a delicious time to explore the Coast, where fresh Gulf seafood, waterfront dining, and annual festivals celebrate the flavors that define the region. Biloxi’s annual seafood traditions are a longstanding fall draw.
On the Mississippi Gulf Coast, seafood is more than something on the menu. It is part of the landscape.
Shrimp boats along the harbor, oysters on ice, fresh Gulf fish coming off the grill and generations of recipes tell the story of a region shaped by the water. Along Coastal Mississippi’s 62 miles of shoreline, Gulf-to-table dining ranges from casual po’boys and seafood platters to chef-driven restaurants putting a modern spin on the Coast’s familiar flavors.

Start With the Biloxi Seafood Festival
One of the Coast’s signature fall traditions returns to Biloxi on September 12, 2026, when the annual Biloxi Seafood Festival takes over Biloxi Town Green. The festival celebrates the city’s seafood heritage with Gulf shrimp, oysters and other local favorites alongside live entertainment and vendors.
The event is currently scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., making it easy to build an entire Saturday around the festival.
Come hungry, try a little of everything and then keep the seafood tour going around town.
Taste Biloxi Beyond the Festival
For a more elevated Gulf-to-table dinner, head to White Pillars, where seasonal menus regularly highlight Gulf fish and shrimp, or try Coraline’s, which focuses on fresh local seafood and regional dishes including redfish, yellowfin tuna and seafood gumbo.
Looking for something casual? Taranto’s Crawfish, Po-Boys & Seafood leans into Gulf, Cajun and Southern flavors, while McElroy’s Harbor House serves seafood overlooking Biloxi’s small-craft harbor.
The point is not to pick a single “best” seafood meal. It is to experience the range.
Try oysters one night. Order a shrimp po’boy for lunch. Find a plate of freshly prepared Gulf fish for dinner. The Coast’s culinary identity becomes clearer with every stop.

Follow the Flavor to Ocean Springs

From Biloxi, cross the bridge into Ocean Springs, where the city’s creative personality carries into its restaurants.
The coastal community combines fresh Gulf seafood with chef-driven menus, casual neighborhood spots, and an active downtown dining scene.
Spend a Sunday walking downtown, browsing local shops and galleries, then settle in for one final seafood meal. If the timing is right, pair your trip with another September tradition: the Mississippi Songwriters Festival, held in Ocean Springs later in the month.

Make It a Full Coastal Getaway
A seafood weekend does not need much structure.
Spend Saturday in Biloxi, start at the Seafood Festival and finish with dinner overlooking the water. On Sunday, take the scenic route along the Coast, stopping in Ocean Springs, Gulfport or Bay St. Louis as your appetite dictates.
And leave room for the setting itself. The harbor, boats, and waterfront are not just a backdrop for the meal. They are part of the story behind it.
On the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the best way to understand seafood season is simple: pull up a chair and taste it for yourself.
