Starkville and Oxford recognized in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards

Jackson, Miss. (April 17, 2024)  Two Mississippi cities have been recognized as top destinations in the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. Starkville was selected by USA Today readers as the #1 best small town in the South, and Oxford was recognized as the #1 best small college town in the U.S.

The 10Best contest recognizes the “best of the best” in travel-oriented attractions across a variety of categories. Nominees were submitted by a panel of experts selected by USA Today and narrowed to a short list of selections chosen by 10Best editors. The competition was then opened to the public, with readers voting for four weeks to choose their favorite U.S. travel destinations and attractions.

“This honor puts two of our cities into a very elite group,” said Visit Mississippi Director Rochelle Hicks. “We are so excited to see Starkville and Oxford at the top of their respective lists because that distinction recognizes something we’ve known for a very long time, that Mississippi offers outstanding travel destinations with excellent restaurants and lodging options, unique attractions, and unparalleled hospitality.”

Two of Mississippi’s top museums were previously recognized in this year’s 10Best awards. The Mississippi Children’s Museum was named the nation’s 3rd best children’s museum, and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum was recognized as the 4th best history museum in the U.S.
