Two museums in Mississippi recognized in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards

Jackson, Miss. (March 5, 2024)  The Mississippi Civil Rights Museum and Mississippi Children’s Museum, both in Jackson, were named as winners in the 2024 USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. The museums were recognized as the 4th best history museum in the U.S. and the 3rd best childen’s museum, respectively.

The 10Best contest recognizes the “best of the best” in travel-oriented attractions across a variety of categories. Nominees were submitted by a panel of experts selected by USA Today and narrowed to a short list of selections chosen by 10Best editors. The competition was then opened to the public, with readers voting for four weeks to choose their favorite U.S. travel attractions.

“Mississippi has many exceptional museums, and word is getting out about the quality and value these attractions offer,” said Visit Mississippi Director Rochelle Hicks. “Tourism is a $7 billion industry in Mississippi, our fourth largest contributor to the state’s economy, and these museums are among our state’s most important tourism draws. So it’s very gratifying to see these two world-class museums get the recognition they deserve.

The USA Today 10Best competition will continue until March 28, with additional categories added and winner announcements throughout the month.
