Arts & Culture in Mississippi

The Magnolia State has played an integral part in shaping the cultural history of America. Whether you’re interested in the artists that have thrived as a result of such a rich culture or the development and preservation of Mississippi’s historical attractions, there’s an endless amount of things to do and places to see.

The Mississippi Museum of Art was founded in Jackson and it’s dedicated to preserving and displaying artists with its expansive collection of over 4,000 works since it first opened in 1978. There are also areas throughout the Magnolia State that focus on the performing arts and specific aspects of the fine arts. With art galleries dedicated to specific artists, you can experience their mastery in more intimate settings. Some of these galleries and attractions also are located along the Mississippi Blues Trail and the Mississippi Writers Trail.
